Housewarming
Housewarming is a game that I worked on at the 2019 Global Game Jam at the NYU Game Center alongside Kate Smith, Joel Forrester, Longkun Yang, Marcus Guimaraes, Elizabeth Castaño, Pasan Dharmasena, and Angela Yu. The theme for this year was "What Home Means To You." For this project, my primary role on the team was in ideation and narrative design.
In this game, you navigate a house that used to belong to someone else that you are trying to make your own. As you go from room to room, clicking on objects in the space changes their color as if you were decorating the house yourself. With time, the walls seem to light up to your touch ultimately culminating in a beautifully vibrant place that you feel comfortable calling a home.
For this game, we wanted to focus on the notion that home for us was a place that all of our time poured into to make our own. I wanted to tell a story about how the identity of a home was unique for each of us, while still speaking to a particular experience we all shared in finding what home meant to us.
